Who is One Planet Percussion?
Michael Beechey launched One Planet Percussion to help spread the word that drumming is fun! Students of all ages can enjoy learning to play their favorite songs and beats in a encouraging environment, using professional equipment in an attractive setting, with access to a large library of instructional material and songs.
What is our mission?
One Planet Percussion provides high quality musical instruction that engages, inspires and informs students to study the work of past masters and world influences to find their own unique form of self-expression.

OPP ensures that all students are motivated and engaged by providing personalized and professional instruction by a trained teacher and seasoned musician that draws on the songs and beats they choose in a program that balances fun and musical advancement. Each student receives a unique combination of lessons that teach the skills needed to fit with their goals and songs they have chosen. Their knowledge of international music is expanded by showing its influence on modern popular music and their musical journey is guided by a sensitive teacher using professional equipment in a welcoming and stimulating learning environment, with access to a large selection of musical tracks and educational DVDs. OPP places student enjoyment and progress as its first priority and keeps things on track by encouraging parents and grandparents to be active members of the students' support team, ensuring that they receive full value for their educational investment.

Who is Michael Beechey?
Michael took to drumming at a young age, joining the Sea Cadets and playing in the York Lions Drumcorp, joining the Musician's Union at 18, playing with professionaly with local bands and musicians. He studied at the Ontario Conservatory of Percussion in Toronto and at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, has toured with Grammy Winner Shirley Eikhard as well as Debbi Lori Kaye and numerous bands and currently performs with World music/Zydeco band Bijoux du Bayou.
Michael loves to work with students of all ages helping them achieve their personal musical goals and guiding them to enjoy the joys of many types of music. “We all learned our first rhythm from our mother's heartbeat. When we heard our first song or band and liked that catchy beat we entered the captivating world of drumming. Students from 5 to 95 can gain the benefits of drumming including: stimulating memory, improving coordination and developing discipline. The added bonus is that having fun by playing drums is one of the best ways to relieve stress there is!...did I mention...It's Fun!” "Learning is a life-long experience, I learn something from every drummer I hear. I have been fortunate to attend clinics or live performances by some of the best drummers in the world: Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Louis Bellson, Buddy Rich, Allan Dawson, Charlie Watts, Billy Cobham, Sam Woodyard, Bob Moses, Zoro, JoJo Mayer, Dom Famularo, Roy Haynes, Ed Thigpen, and Terry Clarke, to mention a few"
